The population of the Irish Free State on census night, 18 April 1926 was 2,971,992.

This first census provides a unique snapshot of Irish society a few years after independence. This census records the names, ages, relationships and occupations of individuals living in every household across the country. The returns often revealed where people worked, identifying their employers and offers a valuable insight into local communities in 1926.

This talk will be given by Dr Des Murtagh, a Professional Genealogist and a Member of Accredited Genealogists Ireland.
