Writing Place, Writing Planet is a collaborative programme that has brought together Irish writers and scientists in co-creation since March 2026. At the Museum of Literature Ireland on August 17th, they will showcase new written works to a small public audience.
A partnership between iCRAG Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences and The UCD Mary Lavin Centre for Creative Writing at the School of English, Drama and Film, this programme explores Ireland’s natural and cultural heritage in a truly unique and interdisciplinary way - blending literary talent with timely research on our natural world.
Through this programme, writers June Caldwell, Otto Goodwin and Zoe Comyns have teamed up with a selection of natural scientists from across Irish universities: Dr. Gordon Bromley, Dr. Sean Jordan, Dr. Shea Slater, Dr. Silvia Caldararu, Ankit Swaraj and Dr. Morgane Bellec. They have been exploring themes of place, planet and humanity through workshops, a field trip, on-going knowledge exchange and expert mentorship, culminating in final pieces of new and exciting written works.
Join us at MoLI for an evening that celebrates their work, our important natural and cultural heritage and the value of merging science with creativity to foster a deeper connection to our changing planet.
