Women Water & Place - Arklow Heritage Walk
Join us in person for the Women & Place Heritage Walk in Arklow on Friday morning 21st August. It’s a great chance to connect, learn, and meet like-minded people. Whether you're curious about Arklow history, women's history, have memories to share, or you just enjoy walking and learning about Arklow 'on the ground', this walk is for you.
We will kick off with a short talk (abuot 20 minutes) in the first floor, Arklow Heritage (Maritime) Museum which describes life in arklow 100-125 years ago.
The walk is free to participants, we are limited to 15 people.
Format:
10:00 Short talk to 'set the scene' in the workshop room, first floor Arklow Heritage Museum
10:20 Set out for a 5km walk along the river bank, looping up to either the Vale Road or Main street, traversing Mary's Road down the Navvy and cutting through the town to the Abbey graveyard. Down to the harbour and pottery then back up the south Quay riverbank, up across the bridge, and down Seaview avenue past the 'Entertainent Centre'.
We will have 7 stopping points, with a short description at each. Allowing for stops, we estimate about 90 minutes to compete the walk, with a cup of coffee at the duckpond for all the hardy walkers!
With thanks to LAWPRO - The Local Authority River Basin District
If bringing children, please be aware that parts of the walk (e.g. crossing the bridge) are on narrow footpaths with traffic alongside.
The Heritage Museum is on 1st floor with access by stairs. There is a lift but it isnt always operational! We will be in the workshop room on the left as you come up the stairs.
