Wild Walk through Shannon Wetlands
To celebrate Heritage Week Week, the Shannon Town Wetlands committee invites you to visit their recently-restored urban wetland, which has become a success story in both conservation and community engagement. This family-friendly event will guide walkers through the flora and fauna of the site, with hands-on exposure to a rich array of pond-life, flowers and grasses. The traditional uses of plants in Irish history and folklore will be touched upon, while we will also try our hand at the “outdoor classroom” created by the wetlands committee, including a look at pond macroinvertebrates and plant identification, as well as plant-ID and bird-ID games for children. Further input, expertise and traditional knowledge from attendees is most welcome. The walk is short and easy, but is unpaved grassy ground and will likely be mucky.
This is a free event, but sign-up is required. Use this link to do so: https://buytickets.at/shannonwetlandsrestorationproject/1800832
