Eco bog talk and walk at Kilteevan and Cloonlarge Bog, Roscommon.
Join a community engagement session hosted by Kilteevan Tidy Towns, Tóchar Stories, with National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). Our local boglands are a rich habitat for biodiversity but if we work to ecologically restore them, our bogs can also become a valuable carbon store, mitigating climate change, and protecting our shared future. Would you like to find out more about the nature of bogs, why they are so important and how bog rehabilitation and restoration works? Join us on August 16th, 11-12 noon for a community conversation led by Therese Kelly and her colleagues at National Parks and Wildlife Services with Eileen Fahey, Kilteevan Tidy Towns and facilitated by Helen Shaw Tóchar Stories, Tóchar Wetlands Restoration. Cloonlarge Bog, close to Kilteevan village, is a raised bog and part of the Lough Ree, SAC. Turf cutting was once carried out by hand in the area but began to cease over a decade ago and Kilteevan Tidy Towns has become community custodians for the protection of the bog. The NPWS team will begin bog rehabilitation work in the region soon and this is an opportunity to find out why it is important, what it involves and how it can benefit local people, place and nature.
After the talk take a guided tour of Cloonlarge Bog Loop. It's free but registration is required. Tóchar is co-funded by EU and Irish Government under Just Transition programme in Ireland.

Walk loop is 5KM so if you are doing the walk come prepared for that and event not suitable for children under 10
