
Westmeath's Wrought Iron Gates - a Photographic Exhibition
An Exhibition of photographs of wrought iron gates from around the County.
Wrought iron is a very distinctive metal and that was last produced in Ireland in the mid 1800s. The tradition of making forged wrought iron gates is particular to Ireland. Many local blacksmiths developed their own distinctive styles of gate making.
The photographs in this exhibition were taken by community volunteers who documented wrought iron gates in their local areas as part of the Westmeath Wrought Iron Gates Project.
