Westmeath's Digital Archives Collection - Public Information Event

17 August, 4pm - 5pm

  • Mullingar Public Library
  • Áras an Chontae/County Buildings, Mount Street, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath
  • N91 FH4N
  • Co. Westmeath

This information event is aimed at students, teachers and members of the public, who are interested in their local history, but may not be aware of the digitised collection available in Westmeath Libraries. It will be hosted by the new Westmeath Archivist.

Over the past 10 years or more, Westmeath Library and Local Studies have digitised large quantities of archival documents relating to the county. These are all freely available to view and use by the public in Mullingar and Athlone library branches.

This year, thanks to funding from the Heritage Council and the Government's Commemorations Fund, we will add another 50 digitised volumes to this digital collection. These include 'Sinn Féin court' records and Mullingar Sheriff's Office records for the early 1920s, records of Mullingar District Asylum for 1855-1877, records of the River Deel Drainage Scheme from the 1860s onwards, Mullingar Workhouse abstracts book from 1879, and more.

So call into Mullingar Library on Wednesday 17th August at 4pm to find out more about our digital collection and how to use it and our plans to make it even more accessible in the future.

This is a free event - no booking necessary.
