Join us on Wednesday 20th August @ 8pm for a compelling evening of history and insight as renowned author and historian Chris Lawlor presents a talk based on his recent publication, 'Robert Barton, a Remarkable Revolutionary'.

Discover the extraordinary life of Robert Barton, one of the most intriguing and complex figures to emerge from the Irish Revolution. A native of Wicklow, Barton’s unique Anglo-Irish background set him apart from many of his revolutionary peers. Despite his privileged upbringing, he became deeply committed to the cause of Irish independence.

As one of the plenipotentiaries who travelled to London to negotiate the Anglo-Irish Treaty, Barton not only signed the treaty and supported it in the Dáil, but later aligned himself with the anti-Treaty side during the Civil War – a decision that highlights the deep personal and political struggles of the time.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the formation of the Irish State and the pivotal role played by one of Wicklow’s own.

All are welcome – history enthusiasts, students, and curious minds alike!
