Visit St Peter's Church Dunboyne

The current building is believed to be the 3rd church to be built on this ancient site. It dates from 1865 and was designed by Samuel Rollinson. The roof design resembles an upturned boat. Internally it contains 2 ancient fonts and a number of architectural fragments dating from the 15th and 16th century.

The graveyard dates from pre-christian times and it is defined by earthen banks. It contains headstones from c.1780 to present, including the burial place of the artist Leticia Hamilton (1878-1964). The grounds include a freestanding ashlar stone mausoleum and the tower/ ruins of the medieval church of SS Peter & Paul. The tower is currently covered in Ivy - but this year we have received heritage grant funding from Meath County Council to undertake a Conservation Management Plan.

During Heritage Week, the church and graveyard will be open to visitors for the hours listed, offering an opportunity to discover the history of this ancient place and to enjoy it's unique atmosphere of peace and serenity in the heart of Dunboyne.
