
Unveiling the Basking Shark
In anticipation of the International Conference on Basking Sharks (29-31 August) the Irish Basking Shark Group is unveiling a new basking shark sculpture at Spanish Arch, Galway This art work is a live size recreation of one of Irelands gentle giants and will serve to inspire and educate people on part of the Irish Marine Biodiversity. Find some of our members at the statue to learn more about the worldest second largest shark and our conference.

The conference will be held from the 29th to the 31st of August. The first two days will be held at ATU in Galway and is co-hosted by the NPWS. Experts from across the globe will come present their research, host workshops and discuss the current state of basking sharks. Saturday evening you can find us at Eye cinema where we will hold a basking shark movie night (free for all, conference goers get prioirty). Finally we will head north to Achill Island on Sunday for our Literacy day, full of outdoor activities, music, art, history, culture and science to celebrate basking sharks and Ireland's wonderful marine biodiversity (free and family friendly).
