Understanding Drombeg Stone Circle – A Journey into West Cork's Bronze Age Heritage

Join me each afternoon at Drombeg Stone Circle for a free heritage tour exploring one of Ireland's most remarkable Bronze Age ritual monuments.

Drombeg is much more than a collection of standing stones. Set within the landscape of West Cork, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives, beliefs and traditions of the communities who lived here over 3,000 years ago. Together we will explore what archaeology reveals about stone circles, their place within Bronze Age society, and the evidence that helps us understand how this extraordinary site may have been used.

Beyond the archaeological facts, we will place Drombeg within the wider story of the settlement of West Cork, considering how people interacted with the landscape and why certain places became centres of ceremony, community and identity. Where the evidence allows, we will also reflect on current archaeological interpretations and the questions that remain unanswered.

My aim is not simply to explain a prehistoric monument, but to encourage a deeper appreciation of the cultural landscape that surrounds us. By understanding the stories embedded in places like Drombeg, we strengthen our connection with Ireland's shared heritage and recognise the importance of protecting it for future generations.

The talk is free of charge and open to everyone. No booking is required. Voluntary donations are welcome.

Regarding Car parking: There is a small car park at the Stone circle, for max. 6 cars.
It is adviced to park before the circle or at Glandore and walk up the narrow road which leads to the circle. No space for coaches.
