24 August, 3pm - 6pm

  • TBC
  • Ballygar
  • F42 W656
  • Co. Galway – County

Talk by Pat Glennon presenting an update on the research of the Tribes of Uí Maine Project which is using Y-DNA to explore the origins and early ancestry of the Tribes and surname lineages that made up the medieval kingdom of Uí Maine and it’s hinterland in Galway, Roscommon, and surrounding counties.

The Project is fast approaching 200 members with various surnames and Tribes. The talk will explore some preliminary findings and ongoing research aimed at enhancing our understanding of our early ancestry and of the medieval history of Uí Maine.

Free DNA kits will be available for those interested in joining the Project.

An additional talk will be given by Martin Curley on the Ballygar TY Family History Project, exploring the more recent ancestry of the area and it’s diaspora, through autosomal DNA and traditional research.

Weather permitting, for those interested, the talks will be followed by a walk to Castlekelly, a bastion of the later chiefs of Uí Maine, and then refreshments back in Ballygar.

Precise locations to be confirmed.
