Traditional Lime Mortars in Practice: Mixing, Repointing & Minor Wall Consolidation

Join Building Limes Forum Ireland (BLFI) for a unique two-day practical workshop during Heritage Week 2026 at the historic Slane Castle Estate, Co. Meath.

Combining classroom sessions with hands-on learning, this workshop will explore the traditional use of lime mortars in the repair and conservation of historic masonry. Participants will learn about mortar mixing, repointing, and minor wall consolidation while working on one of the historic limestone walls of the former walled garden. Lectures and theory sessions will take place within Slane Castle.

The workshop will be led by experienced craftspeople and conservation professionals, offering participants the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain a deeper understanding of traditional materials, and learn conservation best practice in an authentic heritage setting.

Suitable for property owners, contractors, plasterers, masons, students, heritage professionals, and anyone with an interest in traditional buildings and conservation. Some previous familiarity with construction or traditional building techniques is recommended.

To ensure high-quality practical tuition, places are limited to 14 participants. All tools and materials are provided, and lunch and light refreshments are included.
