Exploring Traditional Farm Buildings

Join us for a site visit and an afternoon of talks at a recently conserved traditional farmyard in the townland of Killarechurch.
Farmer Brian Daly will guide you around his recently conserved farmyard and talk about his experience with the Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme.
2:30pm - 3:15pm: Aine Doyle and Deirdre McDermott, Conservation Consultants who are currently working on a survey of traditional farm buildings in Westmeath and several projects supported by the Traditional Farm Building Grant Scheme, will talk about their work and what to consider if you are planning to conserve/restore a traditional farm building.
3:15pm - 3:45pm: Ecologist and Farming for Nature Ambassador Donna Mullen will talk about farm buildings as habitat, with a focus on bats.
4pm- 4:45pm Aengus Ó Fionnagáin will talk on field names in the wider area.
There will be lots of time for discussion during the day. Parking available at the Uisneach Inn on R390, which is c. 3 minute walk from the farmyard.
Please dress for the outdoors/farmyard.
