Tracing Your Galway Roots: Discover Your Family History
Discover the stories behind your Galway ancestors at this engaging Heritage Week event celebrating family history and local heritage.
The programme includes a keynote presentation on the 1926 Census by a member of staff from the National Archives of Ireland, offering valuable insights into one of Ireland’s most important genealogical resources. Marie Mannion, Heritage Officer will also present on the Digital Mapping of Galway County Graveyards project, showcasing how digital technology is helping to preserve and explore Galway’s burial heritage.
The talks will be followed by an interactive genealogy workshop, where expert genealogists and local heritage groups will guide participants through the process of researching their family history, locating ancestral records, and uncovering fascinating family stories.
Participants will learn how to use key genealogical sources, gain practical research tips, and discover resources that can help them trace their Galway roots. The event also provides an opportunity to meet fellow family history enthusiasts, share experiences, and exchange research strategies.
Whether you are new to genealogy or already researching your family tree, this event offers expert guidance and inspiration to help you on your journey of discovery.
Places are limited and advance booking through Eventbrite is essential.
