Come and see the splendour of St. Colman's Cathedral overlooking Cobh. It is an exquisite gem of Early-French decorated Neo-Gothic architecture. Its lofty spire soars to 300' (90.5m) and encases the carillon in its belfry.
The 49-bell carillon is the only such instrument in this country and is the largest in Ireland or England in terms of number of bells. The total bell weight is 26 tons. It also includes Ireland’s largest bell named St. Colman, 3.6 tons.
Cobh Carillon Playing is part of Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Guided tours will be held every afternoon for Heritage Week.
The resident Cathedral Carillonneur Adrian Gebruers will give a recital on the carillon on Sundays 16th August and 23rd August from 16.30 to 17.30.
The public can view the instrument being played live on a screen within the Cathedral.
