Tours of Leixlip Castle, Co. Kildare
in association with Historic Houses of Ireland enjoy a tour of beautiful Leixlip Castle which was built c. 1172 by Adam de Hereford, a Norman knight who accompanied Strongbow to Ireland. Perched on a rock above the River Liffey, the castle was renovated in the mid-eighteenth century. Its Front Hall boasts a 17th century Brussels tapestry depicting Theodotus offering the head of Pompey to Caesar. The plasterwork in the Library dates from the 18th Century as does the Dolls House in the drawing room which originally came from Newbridge House.
