4 generations of the Mathews family , who were in business in Portarlington, took time to collect and preserve ephemera, photographs, items, and movie films, some heirlooms and such things. George being an early film maker, Jack sr had a museum and Ronnie was a historian, as well as being involved in the early movement of vintage motoring in Ireland and the IVVCC. On display for this event, will be a large collection of all sorts of photos, paperwork, maps, and objects - all from an era gone by .
This is a free, walk in event, in the newly refurbished Hugeneot Market House in Portarlington. It will be open from 12- 8 on both 21st , and 22nd August, with a quick word from Tom Carolan on the Friday and if all works out. You might get a cup of tea and a biscuit while serenaded by Larry Fullam. Laois County Council will also hope to make some photos from the Ronnie Mathews Collection available to view, an exciting first! If you have an interest in Vintage cars, there will be a large selection of photgraphs of early cars that the Mathews founded, owned and restored,; the early Stradbally steam museum, the Gordon Bennett race, some of this never on display.
I hope you can make it, and please spread the word
