Three Events for Free Saturday at Carrowmore.

The Carrowmore Vintage Photography competition:

To celebrate Heritage Week we have an unusual competition. We have selected six vintage images of Carrowmore, three from Robert Welch and three from William Green.

We invite members of the public to reproduce these images with a prize of a Family Heritage Card for the winning entry. Please send photographs by email or Facebook.

The Archaeological Photographs of Robert Welch & William Green.

Our second event is an talk on the photography of Robert Welch and William Green. Welch was official photographer to Harland and Wolff, appointed photographer to the Queen. William Green was an apprentice to Welch, and reproduced many of the same views.

The Red Woman.

The myth of the Red Woman, set in the time of Fionn MacCumhal and the Fianna, first appears in Lady Gregory’s book, Gods and Fighting Men, in 1904. The story describes the hunt for a mythical beast across the country from County Wicklow to County Sligo. The character of the Red Woman was also described by Ella Young, who’s version was used as a model for Melisandre in A Game of Thrones.
