The theme of National Heritage Week 2026 is ‘Heritage at Risk”. Ross Errilly Friary, Headford, Co. Galway has weathered centuries of raids, expulsions and ruin. Headford Library in conjunction with Headford Lace Project will explore two cultural artefacts through the lens of the physical records in two books that have survived to this day. Join us at the library for a week long exclusive public display of these rare editions of the history of the friary entitled The Abbey Of Ross. The first edition from 1868 is on loan from local photographer, Aengus McMahon. The later edition belongs to the Headford lace Project Library and was printed by O’Gorman Printers, Galway, 1908. The launch will take place at Headford Library, St. Fursa’s Hall on August 15 at 5pm and will be a cultural celebration of the legacy of the friary featuring music, poetry and the legend surrounding the founding of the friary.
