In 2015 Dublin Port Company supported artist Cliona Harmey to present Dublin Ships, an innovative art project curated by Ruairí Ó Cuív as part of the Dublin City Councils' Interaction and the City programme.
In this talk Cliona Harmey will talk about the Dublin Ships project and will show a number of other examples from her earlier work to talk about the way in which maritime space has been shaped by a range of innovations in communication technologies such as the lighthouse, the signal lamp, and radio which now sit alongside modern live tracking technologies such as AIS (automatic identification system) which was used in the creation of Dublin Ships. Dublin Ships was also accompanied by an engagement programme with 4 local primary schools.
