The Churches of County Leitrim - An Adventure in Glass

18 August, 7:30pm - 9pm

  • St. George's Church of Ireland
  • St. Mary's Close, Townparks, Carrick-on-Shannon
  • N41KP62
  • Co. Leitrim

Join us on a journey through some of Leitrim's churches.
Explore the decoration of their interiors and the manipulation of light through their plain, stained and coloured glass windows. Stained glass in particular enjoyed a huge revival in Ireland from the middle of the nineteenth century with the boom in church building and the arrival of the Arts and Crafts movement.

Una Sugrue is an architectural researcher for the Buildings of North Connacht - Leitrim, Roscommon and Sligo 'the Pevsner guide' . She is also a conservation architect.

Colette Langan is an artist and stained glass conservator, based in Carrick-on Shannon. Over the past thirty years she has worked on historic windows in Westminster Abbey, Lincoln Cathedral, Windsor Castle and all over Ireland.

Together they will share some of their Leitrim discoveries - treasures that can be found in every part of the county where a church is open.
