The customary laws of Ancient Ireland, transmitted orally during the Common Celtic Period were later preserved in manuscripts after the coming of Christianity to Ireland in the 5th Century AD.

In medieval Ireland ( 400 - 1200 AD) the laws reflected the culture and traditions of the people. Surviving texts describe a system of justice that was innovative and progressive for its time.
