The Big Dig at Carlow County Museum
Carlow County Museum presents the very popular 'The Big Dig' by the School of Irish Archaeology. Using a replica ‘Viking House’ allows children, aged 6-12 years, an opportunity to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate. 'The Big Dig' incorporates the dig experience with educational, engaging and interactive activities throughout the workshop. During their dig for Viking treasures and artefacts, children also learn about the lifestyles of our Viking ancestors, guided by a team of professional archaeologists.
The knowledgeable staff will demonstrate and explain how the objects uncovered during the dig were used in day-to-day life during the Viking era. Book early as places are limited for each 45-minute workshop. This is an outdoor activity so please dress appropriately.
