Terry Lawless Linocut Workshop
Local artist Terry Lawless will deliver a 3-hour lino printing workshop.
This introductory workshop will introduce participants to basic skill of relief printmaking. The participants will have the chance to make their own one colour design that they will transfer onto a lino block, carve out, ink up and print.
Participants will be introduced to the process of developing a design. We will look at composing a simple design, exploring the art elements of line and tone and the design principles of contract and balance. In using these the students will develop a simple design that can be transferred to the block.
Students will also discuss the skills and safety aspects needed for carving the block. They will have the opportunity to explore and practice cutting techniques before they carve out their own designs onto their lino bloc.
The participants will then learn the skills needed for inking up blocks and testing different techniques to roll out inks. They will then have time to print their design onto a variety of surfaces, including different types of papers as well as fabrics.
All students will go home with a number of prints made from their own designs.
All tools, inks, rollers, cutting tools, pencils and papers will be supplied. There is no need to be able to draw.
Do bring a simple A5 (Half A4) image that you would like to make into a design. If you don’t have one or forget, Terry will supply one.
