Discover Cultural Unity: The "Symbol of Hope" Exhibition

The Ukrainian Volunteers of Ireland are proud to present the Symbol of Hope exhibition at Swords Castle from 16–25 August 2026.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

This unique travelling exhibition bridges two vibrant nations by celebrating the traditional craftsmanship, history and resilience of Ireland and Ukraine. The exhibition features authentic, centuries-old Ukrainian garments—deeply meaningful pieces that were carefully preserved and brought to Ireland by people fleeing the war.

This installation places a special focus on traditional Irish costumes. Handcrafted by skilled artisans and members of the Older and Wiser groups across Fingal and Louth, these bespoke garments pay tribute to Celtic traditions and Ireland's rich cultural heritage.

Visitors can explore a unique mannequin display showcasing iconic figures such as Molly Malone alongside traditional Ukrainian dress. The exhibition highlights shared cultural themes and symbolism, including shamrocks, sunflowers and Celtic knots, which have long represented protection, identity and belonging.

Special Event: Ukrainian Independence Day Celebration

Sunday, 23 August | 1.00pm – 4.00pm

Join the local Ukrainian community for an afternoon celebrating culture, heritage and friendship.

Programme:

1.00pm: Guided exhibition tour and official Swords Castle tour
Family picnic and entertainment
Live performances and karaoke
Interactive family activities
Special guests from Fingal County Council and the Embassy of Ukraine to Ireland

National, traditional or cultural dress is warmly encouraged.
