In 1692, Sarah Sparrow, the oldest daughter of Castledermot Quakers Alexander and Mary Sparrow, completed stitching her sampler. This item would have been used to display her skills in needlework. After she married she moved to Dublin and the sampler was probably passed down through the family and maybe sold or given away at some point. Castledermot Local History Group has recently acquired the sampler, which will be finding its new home soon in Ballitore Quaker Museum.
But first it will be coming home to Castledermot, where it was made.
You are invited to call in to view the sampler and learn a little more about its maker.
