St Johns 200

St John's Church Buttevant is 200 years old this year. To celebrate an exhibition inside the church will explain its history, and tours of the church and graveyard will be given every two hours by Buttevant Heritage Group.

The building is an architectural gem, the architects for which were the Paine brothers, who were responsible for much church architecture in the early 19th century in Ireland. The church is in the shape of a greek cross. Internal highlights include the famous hatchment and stained glass from the damaged cathedral in Rheims, that was rescued during the first world war. All are welcome. Opening hours are 13h00 to 17h00 on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16th of August.
