Silent Ground, Living Memory - A Cillíní Community Drop-In Event
As part of Heritage Week, we invite people from across County Mayo to drop in and share their knowledge of cillíní (children’s burial grounds).
You may know the location of a cillín in your townland or parish. You may remember what it was called locally, stories told about it, who cared for it, traditions associated with the place, or memories passed down through your family.
This is an informal drop-in event. There will be no requirement to speak publicly. Contributors can meet with members of the project team and share as much or as little information as they feel comfortable providing.
You are also welcome to bring photographs, maps, documents, placenames, family information or other material that may help us better understand and record these important places.
The event forms part of CILLÍN – Recording Mayo’s Children’s Burial Grounds, an oral history and research project led by the Heritage Office of Mayo County Council and delivered by Mac Conmara Heritage Consulting, supported by the Heritage Council.
Drop in any time between 4pm and 6pm to meet with the project team.
