‘Drawing our Local Heritage Together’ - A Children’s Art Workshop with Blanca Rice Cabrera

In this family workshop, participants will explore the heritage of Fermoy by looking at old photographs of its historic buildings and streets. Inspired by these images, children and their families will draw their favourite place, decorate cardboard boxes and work together to recreate a minature version of the town. The activity encourages creativity, observation and conversation about how Fermoy has changed over time. As families build their own colourful streetscape, they will learn about local history while developing drawing, cutting and collaborative making skills.

Please bring your own scissors and a cardboard box.

Blanca Rice Cabrera (1989) is an Argentinean-Irish artist, based in Cork. She is known under the pseudonym of Libertad which means Liberty. She grew up in a family with a strong history in the defence and promotion of human rights. Her parents were survivors of the Dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). Her visual production is inspired by social causes and human rights movements with a gender perspective.

Blanca has a career working as a mural painter and art teacher, where she explores culture, crafts and design patterns from ancestral peoples and the biodiversity of places she visited around the world.
