Remembering the Clongorey Evictions
The Clongorey Community Centre will host a special exhibition and discussion event exploring the history and legacy of the Clongorey Evictions. This event will provide an opportunity for the local community and visitors to engage with an important chapter in the area's history and learn more about the experiences of the families affected by the evictions of the 1880s.
A photographic exhibition will showcase images from the Eviction Walk, which took place on 06/06/2026, together with photographs from historical re-enactments and archival material. The display will highlight key locations along the route and illustrate the stories of those who lived through this challenging period in Irish history. Through a combination of historical photographs, interpretive displays, and contemporary images, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the social, economic, and human impact of the evictions.
Members of the Evictions Walk group will be present the event to answer questions and share insights gathered through their research and involvement in the project. An informal discussion session will encourage visitors to explore the historical context of the evictions, their significance within the wider Land War period, and their lasting impact on the local community.
The event will also highlight the contribution of younger generations who have participated in preserving and promoting local heritage. By bringing together history, storytelling, and community engagement, this Heritage Week aims to foster greater appreciation of rich heritage and ensure that the stories of those affected by the evictions continue to be remembered, shared, and understood by future generations.
