Raise a Glass - Heritage Pub Tour Waterford City

20 August, 7pm - 10pm

  • Clock Tower, Meaghers Quay, Waterford City
  • Co. Waterford

Tasteful Tours are walking tours with a focus on food and beverages, some based around heritage products or built heritage and historical venues, in Waterford City.

Our 'Raise a Glass' tour is running during Heritage Week. This tour was designed to shine a light on how many 'wet pubs' in Ireland have closed in recent years. On the tour, we celebrate Irish pub culture and we discuss its history but the highs and lows of alcohol consumption in Ireland too. We celebrate built heritage by stopping at three heritage bars in Waterford City where we'll talk about the building interiors and exteriors, their past owners, Victorian bar styles etc. and we consider the possibility that the 'Irish Pub' may soon be recognised as a protected built heritage asset by UNESCO.

This tour explores the heritage, history, and social stories behind some of the city’s finest public houses. We’ll discuss Irish Pub Culture, past and present. And together we’ll do our best to figure out what the future holds for the Irish ‘Wet’ Pub; is it a story of a glass-half-full or half-empty?

So, if you’re curious when it comes to Waterford’s Publore and more, join in and let us lead the way!
