Heritage Week 5

Psalms & Hymns: Celebrating 350 years of Presbyterianism in Longford

24 August, 3pm - 4:15pm

  • Corboy Presbyterian Church
  • Corboy, Edgeworthstown
  • N39 FN84
  • Co. Longford

Presbyterianism has a long history in Co. Longford with a worshipping congregation established in Corboy in 1675. This event will inform you of the rich history of presbyterianism in the Longford area in the 17th century, highlighting some key people and events. It will also allow you to experience traditional presbyterian worship, including singing of traditional Psalms and Hymns, along with the reading of Psalms and Bible Passages. The history and significance of presbyterian worship and practices will be explained throughout, highlighting how the architecture of the building accommodates this. Not only will you be able to experience this traditional service, but you will have the opportunity to explore the building (built in 1729), attached graveyard, and view some historical artefacts. This is an excellent opportunity to explore the history of presbyterianism, it's contribution to the Longford area, experience first hand traditional presbyterian worship, and meet those who continue to worship there.

The church will also be open to visit and view on Wednesday 20th August 2025 from 6:00-8:00pm.
