Passing It On - Inside the Rehearsal Room

Join Elm Eye Collective for a unique, interactive Heritage Week event celebrating the living tradition of Irish amateur theatre. Working alongside director and theatre maker Lianne O'Shea, the collective will take a new play from its first table read through discussion, rehearsal and development to an evening rehearsed reading.

Participants are invited to experience the creative process from the inside. Throughout the day you'll observe how playwrights, actors, directors, stage managers and technical theatre practitioners collaborate to shape a script for performance. There will be opportunities to ask questions, contribute ideas during script discussions, and, for those who wish, take an active role by reading a character, assisting backstage, or shadowing members of the creative team.

Whether you're an experienced amateur theatre-maker, curious about theatre for the first time, or simply interested in Ireland's rich cultural traditions, this event offers a rare opportunity to explore the skills, knowledge and collaborative practices that have been passed from generation to generation within amateur drama.

The day concludes with a public rehearsed reading of the play developed during the workshop, followed by an informal discussion reflecting on the creative journey.
No previous theatre experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to step inside the rehearsal room.
