Celebrate Heritage Week with the Native Woodland Trust on a guided biodiversity walk through Lecarrow Wood Nature Reserve in Co. Roscommon. Taking place on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, the walk begins at 10:30 AM at the Lecarrow Reserve carpark.
This family-friendly event explores the rich habitats surrounding Lough Ree, starting from our tree nursery and wildflower meadow to emergent woodland, scrub, native woodland and marshy lakeshore. The walk will highlight the plants and animals that thrive in these ecosystems, while offering insights into ongoing local conservation efforts.
The tour concludes on the scenic banks of Lough Ree, where participants can enjoy a picnic and packed lunch before returning through the reserve. You'll also learn how the Roscommon branch of the Native Woodland Trust is expanding ancient woodland habitat — one seedling at a time.
The event is free, open to families, and a great way to support and learn about Ireland’s natural heritage.
