The graveyard contains a variety of memorials including chest tombs, free-standing crosses, grave slabs, headstones and undecorated stone markers. Evidence remains of a significant collection of cast-iron work including simple plot railingsand free-standing cast-iron crosses. Memorials from 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th centuries are contained within Old Connaught. There are two First World War graves in the graveyard which have limestone headstones of standard military design and commemorate Sapper W. Skelton of the Royal Engineers who served as Private P. Ashford for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Further details are available on our website: https://themedievalbrayproject.wicklowheritage.org
The property is opposite the entry to Festine Lente...we will have a banner on the wall near the graveyard.
While the property is wheelchair accessible, the graveyard itself is a rough terrain, and as with a lot of old graveyards it requires careful steps to navigate to each headstone. Limited car parking is available on the road but for safety sake one should park at Festine Lente across the road and walk to the graveyard.
Depending on volunteers available we may be able to accompany visitors as they wish. Leaflet is available.
