The Governor’s House & Gatehouse were built between 1840 and 1842, the Georgian buildings were part of a large gaol complex that housed thousands of prisoners until its closure in 1887.
Today the Governor’s House is home to Nenagh’s Genealogy and Heritage Centre; a museum in which you can step back in time to experience rural Ireland.
The gatehouse is steeped in history, it was the place where 17 men were publicly executed and the tragic story of the Cormack bothers is told.

For Heritage Week we will be offering free guided tours of the Governor’s House and the Gatehouse, come and join us on the tour to hear the stories and learn some history.

Booking is essential, through Nenagh Tourist Office.
