The Story of Killaghtee — A Journey Through Time
This Heritage Week, the Killaghtee Heritage Trail invites you to step into the past and imagine life through the eyes of two children — a boy and a girl — who will guide us through centuries of local history. From Bronze Age settlements to medieval ruins and coastal traditions, their story will bring the landscape to life, connecting generations through the shared heritage of Dunkineely and Killaghtee.

As part of the Dunkineely Reunion and Killaghtee Festival 2026 (19–23 August), we’re launching a special competition to name the children who will lead this timeless adventure. Their journey will unfold both on the trail and online later this year, allowing everyone — near or far — to take part in shaping the next chapter of Killaghtee’s story.

Whether you’re returning home for the festival or joining us virtually, this is your chance to leave a mark on a living heritage project that celebrates community, creativity, and connection.

There’s a wonderful prize for the winning names — and even more pride in knowing your ideas will become part of the Killaghtee Heritage Trail’s future. Winner will be announced during 'children's day' 23rd August, at Bruckless Community Centre.

To enter - look out for cardboard cut-outs and pictures of the children, at the Dunkineely Reunion and Killaghtee Festival 2026 Suggested 2euro per entry, or any donation is welcome. For online entries (2euro plus fees) look out for updates on our website and facebook pages. All donations will go to creating a wonderful launch event for the children later in the year.
