Murder on Chapel Hill, Kildare Town, 1904 with Mario Corrigan.

The Joe Connelly Lecture for 2026 features a talk on a forgotten murder case in 1904 on Chapel Hill in Kildare Town by historian Mario Corrigan and forms part of the Cill Dara Historical Society's Annual Calendar of talks for 2026. It will discuss the tragic case and the collective reaction and lack of discussion over the years. Our local and social history must be researched and brought to life or we run the risk of not properly appreciating and understanding our past.

Our history incorporates dark elements which we should try to unravel. This tragic tale of cruelty and loss reminds us of the fragility of life and the awful conditions and violence which often lurked beneath the surface.

The talk commemorates the work of Joe Connelly who revived Cill Dara Historical Society and was responsible for its success over the last two decades. His commitment to preserving and promoting the history of Kildare Town and the surrounding areas is reflected in the Society's choice to name a talk during Heritage Week in his honour.
