Marsh Fritillary Workshop – National Heritage Week 2026.

Join us during National Heritage Week for a fascinating workshop exploring the Marsh Fritillary, one of Ireland’s most iconic and protected butterfly species. This unique event will introduce participants to the butterfly’s remarkable lifecycle, the habitats it depends on, and the conservation measures helping to safeguard its future.

Facilitated by experts from Butterfly Conservation Northern Ireland, the workshop combines an informative classroom session with a practical field survey. You’ll learn how to identify suitable Marsh Fritillary habitat, recognise larval webs, and gain an insight into the survey and monitoring techniques used by conservationists.

Suitable for wildlife enthusiasts, landowners, farmers, students and anyone with an interest in biodiversity, this workshop offers an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge while enjoying the landscapes around Sliabh Beagh.

The workshop takes place on Thursday, 20 August 2026, from 10.00am to 3.00pm, at Sliabh Beagh Hotel (H18 H985). Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear, as part of the day will be spent in the field. A light lunch will be provided.

The event is hosted by the Biodiversity Section, Monaghan County Council, facilitated by Butterfly Conservation Northern Ireland, and funded by The Heritage Council as part of National Heritage Week 2026.
