Lughnasadh in Bandon - Forage, Picnic & Talk
FORAGE - PICNIC - TALK
Join us for a special event to celebrate the harvest of Lughnsadh. We explore and read the landscape of a very special place - Cill Brogháin Holy Wells in Bandon Town Park. Unusually, these twin Wells are located above the vigorous Kilbrogan Stream, it isn't hard to see why Brogan founded his monastery at the site.
- Wild inspired Chef, Kevin O'Connell from Forage & Find, will lead us on a foraging walk to examine the hedgerows and edibles.
- Amanda Clarke (author of Holy Wells of Cork & Kerry), will discuss the traditional patrún Day of the Assumption (Aug 15th) which would have been particularly venerated at this site of Brigid's and Our Lady's Well.
Interpreting entries from the Dúchas schools collection and the Heritage Council's Archaeology 2025 report on the site. This will help gain a glimpse into our incredible, traditions and rich tapestry of the Wells from pre-Christian, early monastery, reformation, plantation and civil war.
Bring food to share the harvest spirit. This ancient harvest agricultural festivals and celebration of wheat is a great way to connect with the Season and bounty of our Heritage.
The Harvesters, is an oil-on-wood painting completed in 1565 by the Northern Renaissance artist Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
This is a free event thanks to the support of the Heritage Council and Cork County Council.
Entrance is made to the park from the Kilbrogan Street.
