Lucan Demesne Historical Walking Tour
Walk of Lucan Demesne: find out about the history & architecture (medieval to Victorian) with SOL local history volunteer, Eugene McGrattan. This tour will take circa 90 minutes . You will be able to access: Interior of medieval church in the demesne - View the stables and dairy of Lucan House - Visit the Bath House (former medieval chapel) in the grounds - See the "Sarsfield" (really a monument by James Wyatt), see the 2023 bronze buffalo sculptures by artist Davide Rivalta set in Parco Italia, and more.
This is a very in-depth tour, so although children age 13-17 are welcome with a guardian if they're really into history, the tour is aimed primarily at adults.
90 minutes of walking, sometimes in off-path conditions, mean you'll need to wear strong, supportive footwear such as walking boots and be physically able to walk for 2 hours.
START TIME & LOCATION: Meet at the latest 11.55 sharp just inside Lucan House Gates, opposite Lucan Presbyterian Church.
The gates will be opened at 11.45 for free car parking in the demesne, for attendees only and we cannot wait or admit any late entrants either on foot or by car, as the gate is controlled by South Dublin County Council staff.
