Lough Carra Bioblitz at Moore Hall

To celebrate National Heritage Week 2026 we’re once again hosting a fun-filled family day out at Lough Carra and Moore Hall, Co. Mayo. This is a free event and open to all with an intertest in nature, biodiversity and the outdoors. Come along at any point through the day and help us record as many species as possible. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to learn about biodiversity while helping us to record vital conservation data. You can also download the Seek app by iNaturalist, which is a great tool to help identify and learn about a wide variety of species.

This year we’ll be joined by LAWPro/River Basin Management Service who will be helping to identify species through kick sampling and pond dipping. We will also have an hourly demonstration (starting on the hour from 11am – 3pm) in how to complete the Flower Insect Timed (FIT) Count so that you can begin your own survey work.

Bring your curiosity, your family and your enthusiasm (and maybe a picnic). Enjoy hands-on activities, kids nature trails and demonstrations. Help us to celebrate our natural heritage during National Heritage Week.
