Learn the Ancient Craft of Smoking Salmon
21 August, 12pm - 1pm
- Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre
- Kincora Road, Lisdoonvarna
- V95 HD70
- Co. Clare
Have you ever wondered how our ancestors smoked fish? Let Birgitta, the owner of the Burren Smokehouse, initiate you into the art and craft of salmon smoking that has not changed over thousands of years. She will show you the working kiln and smoke box in the visitor centre, and the materials we use to smoke the salmon. Being from Sweden, Birgitta will tell you about her Swedish heritage and her own history of fishing which evolved into a salmon smokehouse on the west coast of Ireland with her husband Peter.
You will of course also have the opportunity to taste our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon.
Afterwards you can explore the interactive visitor centre next door, the "Taste the Atlantic - Salmon Experience" with a focus on the legend of the Salmon of Knowledge. You can try your hand at digital puzzles and quizzes.
Discover the mosaics that tell the story of the "Salmon of Knowledge" inside and outside the Smokehouse. Don't miss the one on the gable wall!
This event is free, but we highly recommend to book your seat(s) to avoid disappointment.
