Join Veerle Claeys horticulturalist with an interest in biodiversity and Maeve Collins Guac artist, as they do a biodiversity count with a difference. Learn how to do kick sampling to take a biodiversity count in your stream or pond. We use simple citizen science techniques that tell you quickly how healthy the water is. Use our lopes to look closely to the tiny microorganisms, insects and plants that are involved in cleaning our waterways. You can also learn to draw plants that live near the water if you want.
The site that we will be taking the count on has recently added four ponds and two ‘dam instillations’ made by neighbours, ecologists and artists working together in the Lickeen Lake Catchment. This is a chance to learn how to restore and care for our waterways and wild life and to see first hand what a difference making a simple pond can make to wild life and its diversity.
