Island of the Two Crosses: An Early Irish Christian History

16 August, 7pm - 8:30pm

  • Co. Meath

For almost a whole millennium, the native Irish and the foreign Roman factions of the new religion clashed for control over the spiritual life of the people of Ireland.

This online talk takes a closer look at the differences between the Gaelic and the Roman interpretations of the Christian faith, focusing on what made Irish Christianity so unique, creative, diverse and a pain in Rome’s behind for 700 years.

Learn more about the real story of St. Patrick and the early Irish saints, the mysteries of the Druid-Poets, the turmoil of the Vikings, the reign of Brian Boru, and the final victory of Rome through the ecclesiastical colonisation of Ireland.

We will discern facts from myth to learn how the new faith did not replace but enhanced Gaelic society, learning, arts, laws & customs.
