The Royal Irish Academy Library welcomes visitors of all ages on Wednesday, 19 August (1-4pm) for a drop-in, family-friendly printing workshop and tours of the Ink & Innovation exhibition showcasing the Library’s earliest printed books together for the first time.

Containing a range of works from history to astronomy, these works reveal the wide interests of early Renaissance readers and a range of printing press technologies, including moveable type and woodcut decoration.

Come explore the fascinating history of the book through our children’s trail activity and drop-in printing session provided by the National Print Museum to make a printer’s hat and pull your own print!

This year’s National Heritage Week highlights ‘Heritage at Risk’ and the traditional craft of letterpress printing is listed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage, and the Heritage Crafts Red List of Endangered Crafts in the UK.
