Family Heritage Fun Day – Where History Comes Alive

Step back in time and enjoy a fantastic day of free family fun as Bandon's history is brought to life through interactive activities, living history, traditional crafts and entertainment for all ages.

Held at Bandon Town Hall and the historic Shambles, this lively Heritage Week event invites visitors to experience the sights, sounds and skills of the past. Meet skilled craftspeople demonstrating traditional trades including blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, lacemaking, coin striking, woodturning and candle making, and discover how everyday life was lived centuries ago.

Children can become archaeologists for the day with the ever-popular Big Dig, watch thrilling 17th-century battle re-enactments, enjoy longbow demonstrations, circus performances, storytelling, puppet shows, balloon modelling and face painting, while live music, local food and craft stalls create a vibrant festival atmosphere throughout the day.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, with hands-on workshops, old-fashioned games and activities designed to spark curiosity about Ireland's rich heritage. Families can also explore Bandon's fascinating past through self-guided heritage trails and discover why this historic walled town remains such an important part of Ireland's cultural landscape.

Organised by Bandon Historical Society in partnership with local community groups, craftspeople and performers, the event celebrates the people, traditions and stories that have shaped Bandon through the centuries. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet experts, discover local history, and experience heritage through hands-on activities designed to inspire curiosity in visitors of all ages.
