Heritage explorers (Heritage Week)

Celbridge Library will have two activities for heritage week inspired by the School collection. The school collection is a collection of folklore compiled by schoolchildren in Ireland in the 1930s for the Folklore Collection. The National Folklore Collection (NFC) is a UNESCO recognised folklore archive, and one of Europe’s largest archives of oral tradition and cultural history. The school collection is a collection of folklore that was gathered by schoolchildren from people in their local area in the 1930s in a country wide school project and can be viewed here


Celbridge Library staff researched the school collection for Celbridge schools and found some very interesting entries based on nature and handmade toys recorded by children between 1937 and January 1938 - 89 years ago.


Children can drop into the library over Heritage week and make a pom pom like the children recorded 89 years ago or take part in a bird hunt in the childrens library area inspired by birds recorded in the Celbridge entries
