Heritage Day and Lá Gaelach Teach John Micí Bán

Teach John Micí Bán will host both a heritage day and Lá Gaelach on Saturday, August 15 from 12 until 4pm.

Visitors will be invited to explore the museum and learn about rural life in the early 20th century. The traditional property, which is run by Hugo and Margaret Boyle, is a cultural landmark which features a massive private collection of vintage farm equipment, implements, and artifacts that showcase rural life in Ireland over the past century.

The property is well-known for its collection and the owners’ willingness to share stories and knowledge with visitors. Those who come along on Saturday will be invited to see a demonstration of straw-rope making - a tradition that was once widespread but is disappearing from rural life. A spinning wheel demonstration by Lorna Shannon will take place in the kitchen. Visitors can watch Lorna demonstrate this age-old tradition and are encouraged to ask questions as she shares her knowledge, experience, and insights into the craft.

Noel Mac Liam will be performing Irish sean-nós songs and English ballads in the sitting room. People are invited to sing-along and converse in Irish. If the sun is shining the Lá Gaelach will take place outside behind the farmhouse. This event was hugely successful last year with between young and old conversing in Irish and stepping up to sing a verse.
The house, F92 Y576, will be open each day during Heritage Week from 11 to 5pm for viewing.
